Well, it's Giving Tuesday today a global movement that encourages people to give back to their communities, whether volunteering, donating, or through acts of kindness. And food banks across the province hoping today will mean extra donations. According to a new report yesterday released by Food Banks Ontario, we're relying more and more on them to survive, and demand is outpacing supply. Highest numbers on record were recorded between April 2024 and March of this year, 8.7 million visits. That's an increase of 165% since 2019. CEO Carolyn Stewart calls it an affordability crisis, pushing more families from just getting by to barely holding on. just in time for the holidays, another company has announced massive layoffs. Algoma Steel, laying off more than a third of its workforce as it accelerates a transition to new equipment in response to U.S. tariffs. The company is expected to lay off over 1,000 workers. A residential apartment fire in Toronto is still burning after four days. The city's fire chief said the blaze is believed to be through insulation trapped in the walls between the two high-rise towers. Crews are working to put it out. Hundreds of people have been displaced after nearly 400 units had to be evacuated. Investigators looking into the cause of the fire. And police in Ontario have safety tips for Canadians buying or selling items through online marketplaces this holiday season. They say it's best to meet during daylight hours, avoid inviting strangers to your home, and bring a friend along.
