Toys R Us Canada is facing another lawsuit from a landlord that says it terminated the retailer's lease after it failed to pay rent. Rio Can Holdings says in a new court filing that the toy store chain did not pay rent last month. for a space it occupied at the Lawrence Allen Centre in Toronto. After allegedly warning Toys R Us Canada that it would end its leases if it did not make a payment, RioCan says it followed through with its threat on January 20. The claims have not been tested in court, and when asked about the lawsuit, spokesperson for the company said it did not have information to share. Mayor Olivia Chow has unveiled Toronto's 2026 budget, holding firm on a 2.2% property tax increase while freezing TTC fares. extending library hours, and boosting student nutrition programs. One of the biggest line items is a $93.8 million increase for police, bringing the TPS budget to $1.43 billion. Critics say the money should go toward housing, youth programs, and mental health support, but Chow argues the investment is needed to keep 911 response time down and crime trending lower. Latin artists in Toronto are celebrating Bad Bunny after he made Grammy history Sunday night, winning the Album of the Year prize. He beat out heavyweights like Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, and Sabrina Carpenter, taking home 3 awards in all. Local musicians say the win is bigger than one artist.
